Sara and Bailey head for Nashville

They left this morning and I can't
believe what they accomplished!  They painted all the doors and make up chest in my room, took down the old mirror and replaced it with a new one, put new drawer handles on and went to Marble Hill to get granite ordered!  I have a new room and it looks so good!

They got two bargain visits too!  Bailey got to meet with soccer coach at Semo, Heather Nelson, and when we were out at Trees and Trends, Kathy Matthews and her daughter, Chrissi, came in so we all had a two hour visit!   It was great fun!

Projects are going on!

Sara and Bailey are here and they are painting the woodwork in my bedroom and redoing my make up table!  And it looks so much better!  They know how to do it!  My job is to stay out of the way!

Sara and Bailey arrive!

Yes we went out to eat twice!  Yes I had arranged a meeting At Houck so that Bailey could meet with Heather Nelson, Semo soccer coach, because Bailey will be the soccer coach at Clarksville, Tennessee next year!   Bailey thought the meeting was invaluable!

A crashed computer!

I have two computers, neither of which I understand or comprehend!  I am trying to write a speech for Monday night and Sunday the computer crashed and died! Mark Hoffmeister, my tech guru, came yesterday and pronounced it dead and called ITOK to resurrect all the files on the second computer!  He assured me that all would be well this morning!  NOT!

Glitch!  I hate computers who don't behave like I need them to!

Memorial Day

This is the day that we remember our fallen soldiers!  I remember the way my mother worried when Jim was in Vietnam Nam and how she clapped her hands and ran to touch him when he came home!   I look every day at the flag I received at his burial!

Bailey Jordan's birthday!

Can't believe that James Bailey Jordan is 52 today !  I see him now and he is business man and has a life I know nothing about!  But he carries the same traits with him..a Southern gentleman with a penchant for the finer things and a wavering for comfortable verbiage!  Wonder where he got that!!!

Unsung heroes!

Today is the birthday of Dr. Wanda Pipkin,  Cape Girardeau veterinarian and furniture hauler ordinaries for international students on campus!  The students welcome that blue truck with open arms because they know Dr. Wanda is bringing them a bed and clean sheets and towels and they won't have to sleep on a mat on the hard floor or on dirty rental carpet!

I would like to nominate her, on her birthday, for a volunteer of the year award!  She deserves to be praised for she is truly an unsung hero!

Promise zones

I watched Secretary Castro talk about Ferguson and Promise Zones.  It promises that Hud will focus on making a difference in places that have become war zones because of inequality!  I wish I could do something to relieve life for others.   I am proud that Mark Stacy wants to help the Central grads also!  More to come!

It is so easy to sit in judgement when you have not faced the reality of inequality!  I have always believed that if you work hard and play by the rules, you could get ahead!  That is not true for all people!  I need to think carefully about this!

Keeping up with the Jones's

One of the things I have had to learn about living alone is that I have to be responsible for maintenance and upkeep of this house for trade in value down the road and appearance outside and inside! So I read all the stories in mags about how to keep everything running smoothly and it works!  But not miraculously!

My yard is beautiful!  Karel Edgar sees to flowers and Gene Schippers does the yard,  she came yesterday and put in summer flowers!  But there is always something to do!  John Welch just fixed what I thought was a water problem but the water came in again!  Wait for my call, john!

Steve Bieser and Baseball

The TV talk is about semo and baseball tournament on Thursday night in Jackson Tennessee and Coach Steve Bieser, a semo alum who graduated in 1989!  Steve played for the Mets in 1997 and the Pirates in 1998 and is from Ste Genevieve!

I wish Steve and the team well!

My daughter, Laurie!

This morning I went to beauty shop early to get my hair dyed.  When I got home there was a message on the phone from Laurie!  She said she did not get to talk to me on Mothers Day and she was thinking of me!  I am so lucky!

Sunday, nothing pressing!

Nice place to be.  Heather came this morning and we ran errands and she did cleaning.  She also brought me a coke from Rhodes which endeared her as usual to me.  I'm easy.   I'm ready to start a new week and get going again.  Commencement is over and that means that we can really get ready to welcome a new President!  And we are ready!

I need a challenge so I am planning to think about the challenge today.  But in the meantime, I will do nothing and do it sincerely!

Enjoy your mistakes!

After Mark and Tina left yesterday morning, I started looking at Fb and saw a reminder that Gary Lucy art show was in his hometown of Caruthersville and so I called Matt Porter and asked if he wanted to go!  After driving to Missouri state line almost, we got there to find out that the display had been taken down last week!   It stormed all the way to Sikeston so we stppped at Lamberts.  And yes, it lacks some thing in the way of elegant dining but it makes up for it in volume!

We laughed about it all!  Even the gunfight across from McDonalds when we got to Cape!  Thanks Matt for being my laugh partner!

Mark Stacy and John Lohr

We headed for coffee at Rhodes today to see John Lohr, who is manager there!  Mark is visiting for the day on his way to a wedding in St Louis and our two families have always been close!  We had a great time telling stories.  Some, I think, were true!

I am up and going!

All I wanted yesterday was for my two front teeth to be chip free and I got that!  Only reminder of yesterday is the ache where they put the shots in!   But I am going to get my nails fixed and Mark and Tina are coming in today!!!!!  Yeah!!!!

The Caregiver!

I am watching Tom Brokaw story about his family fighting cancer with him and how the big load fell on his daughter, Jennifer!  She loved taking on the role but no one realized what it took out of her!  And I identified!  Did I identify!  I took on the role for two sisters and both of these roles took so much out of me!  No one understands or fully appreciated what I willingly gave except my brother, Jim!   He would tell me how valuable my care was to each of them and beg me to keep on keeping on!  I understood what Jennifer was saying!  Few people give you the Clara Barton award!  Thanks Jim.

I will not forgot his praising me for making dinner at night and dealing with financial matters to protect the stroke victim which were difficult to understand!  Thanks Jim!  It took it out of you also with police families!

Cosmetic dentistry !

Just spent the morning in Dr Harters office to get my jagged front teeth redone!  Right now I feel like I have been hit by a ten ton truck!  The only thing that is keeping me going is when I look in the mirror thru my numb lips and see straight teeth!   It will be worth it if I live over it!

Monday at Starbucks

Started this morning with Matt Porter and Cheryl Reinagel at Starbucks!  They just finished Soles for Souls and Genesis left with the truck!  We laughed at old time stories about Randy Shaw and Ragu!!

Flowers and cards

I am sitting here on Mothers Day morning looking at my texts and loot!  This place looks like a florist and card factory and I am thrilled!  I am thrilled to think of my children and my siblings and my parents and others who bring joy to my life!  I am so lucky!

Mark and Mark together again!

Got a call last night that Mark Stacy was visiting in South Carolina with Mark Blaylock and they called me! I heard Mark Blaylock say "Mama Jane" and I knew I was in a time warp!  Jan and Charlie Blaylock have moved down there also!

I made them send me a picture and the old Central gang is eating it up on Fb!  I loved my kids' friends!  I was part their mother too!

Moving with Kathy Sweeney on TV

I started my day with A call from my sister, Betty Hearnes, wanting to know if I was getting the press out about Jim being honored!  I assured her I was up and on it!  And I was!  Thank goodness we have Mark Hoffmeister who can do all the technical stuff!  My siblings and I have  a bond to each other that most of our children would never understand!  Even when we deny it, we know we are lying!

And we made it!  Kfvs12.com has the story and pics and she had us come to the station with the "guts"!  And it got to every local newspaper also! The funny thing was that the stlouis
Police dept had no press shooting and they wanted our video and stills too!  I never believed in having any event without getting the press out!   So Jimmie Cooper, we zoomed it for you!  And you could hardly turn on a light switch!

In the aftermath of a wonderful event!

I had a wonderful time at the event honoring my brother, Jim Cooper, yesterday!  I was thrilled when my sister, Betty, came and when Bobby Hearnes and it made a family circle of memories!  Betty thanked the Police from the Hearnes family and the Cooper family and it widened the circle!

And the whole event happened because Roy Joachchimstaler, OFallon chief o police, had his uncle bring him down so he could express his sympathy when Jim died.  He said that to the people yesterday!  My circle has been enlarged by getting to know Roy and Sue and Dan Coil and Danny Slay and on and on!

And that is what Daddy believed in Most:
the inherent goodness of people!  So do I and you find it in people like Roy!  Thanks, chief!  You made a sister happy!

Doc Cooper tribute day at St. Louis police Academy

It was a wonderful tribute to my brother, Dr James Cooper, when the police dept unveiled his pic today at the St. Louis Police Academy!  Betty Hearnes and I spoke on behalf of the family but they came to share their stories and the room was filled with people standing in the halls!   I learned something about him --he did quirky things all the time forbhis police patients and most of them talked about him like he was a God who would do anything except charge them!  And, I leaned he loved to party!  Maybe we were more alike than I ever believed!

Many said we looked exactly alike!  If you call it the same way, make your judgment and tell anyone else but me!

Get with the program, fast!

I am in a new world dragging others with me.   We, in the fund-raising business, are learning to adopt the methods of politicians who have proved that computer lists and keeping the active and informative can raise what would take us ordinary fund-raisers months and years to cultivate.   I am interested in learning more.  I still don't believe that the big money comes in that way but it builds interest and comfortability.

So I am recommending that method as a way to keep people and prospective donors from falling off the charts or never getting on.   For instance, I am in the process of taking the history of our lists from two areas and checking for current addresses and these applications:

l.  Are they on Facebook ?
2.  Are they on Linkedn In?
3.  Do we have email addresses?
4.  Who knows them?
5.  Are they listed in Sagamores or Alumni Directory?

The idea is to get them on one list and maintain that list with a balance of information and needs.  They say that the secret is to keep the list maintained weekly with some piece of news that affects the particular area.  Then at times, drop an item of need.   While you are attempting to develop readership, spend more time in sending information about the program before that item is dropped.   It is also good to drop an article about someone who made a gift recently.

Mark Allen Stacy's birthday!

It's happening today!  From that day forward I am a mother --the best role in my life!  I love his wit and his laughter and his ability and willingness to listen even when he knows the other side is dead wrong!  And he is loaded with compassion until you cross him too many times!  That little boy has grown up into a whale of a guy!  It's the gospel as told by his mother!

Getting ready for the week!

I love Sunday's since Heather Mitten comes and helps keep!  I am swamped with a meeting on Tuesday with Semo Athletics, meeting in St Louis with the Police to see the people who came for the tribute to Jim Cooper And a meeting Thursday to define their fundraising plan!

However it takes research and brainpower!   And time!   Thank goodness Heather comes on Sunday's!

Spent the day making things happen!

Mark Hoffmeister was here working all day and believe me four hands are better than two especially when fixing computer problems!  I went to lunch with Vp Bruce Skinner and talked to him about my ideas about dealing better with the international students!  He said I had earned my wings and I could say what I felt to him!  I had all my ideas written out and he took them!   Then I barged in to the Faculty retirement , at  Lana Richmonds request and picked up her plaque since the administration fired her and she did not want to show up!

Then I went to Hutsons and bought me a rocking chair!  It helps my back to rock!   My weekend looks quiet!

A night with Jean Carnahan

Last night I went up to the Cbf banquet at Missouri Baptist University honoring Senator Jean Carnahan and it was great to see her!  She was thrilled to see me there and we had a fun table!  I loved the speaker, a black woman pastor who could get down.  She preaches in Washington, D.C.!
