Celebrity diner

Yesterday I went into the Port Cape to have lunch with Mary Ann Deline and Doc Cain, the owner, came to the table and said loudly, "Jane, you're the celebrity diner of the town!  We gotta have your picture!"  Hey, everybody has to be something!   So here I am!

Lunch with Ron Hahs

A few years ago I went to my agent, Ron Hahs, and said I wanted him to take care of me like I was his sister because I now had to make it on my own!  He has done so!  Each year we go to lunch on my birthday and we talk finances!

He is a dear man who is always circumspect!  He takes care of me, even went to President and demanded that I be kept on as consultant! That was when he learned that not everyone lives up to his word!

Final birthday party

I went out last night to Dalhousie Country Club with. Joan Gohn and Judy Brown!  We ate leisurely for hours and no one was safe!  Joan and I have been around the world together on seven cruises and jaunts so we know each other like the back of our hands!  Judy was married to Dennis Ray Brown, who was in my class in Charleston!

We fit together like gloves!  Whatever we do, we enjoy!  None of us are drama queens!  Take us for who or what we are or leave us be!

Mark Zieres and HSC

Had lunch at El Sol at noon with Mark Zieres today.  He finds and develops lots for Sav a Lot with headquarters in st Louis!  We laughed and laughed about our antics in Homecoming Steering Committee!   He and his wife are having their first child and it is a girl!  I just flat out asked him," Is there a reason you are not naming this kid, 'Jane'"?

Dressed and waiting!

Gloria and the roof man are coming today so I am up and dressed.  I feel much better!  Then I have lunch with Mark Zieres, an alum from St Louis and Joan Gohn is hosting a birthday dinner tonight for me at the Country Club.  So I better get up in gear!

The Spinks have landed!

Open the champagne!  The drywall is up and it is all painted!  Here is a pic of Mark and Gayla Spinks who have worked their butts off finding the source and repairing it!  Her dad was Sam Gunter of Charleston who was in Julia's class!

Next week Randy will come to stretch the carpet and then Merry Maids will come to clean everything and put it back!  Happy Sunday!

Still gathering friends and parties

When I grew up, we lived on a mini-farm and had a half acre which we farmed on the halves with Sam henderson and Elsie Tarver, his common-law wife who were black!  We also had a cow, chickens and fruit trees and a Mother who cooked like a dream!  I was exposed to good food!

My favorite meal is turkey and dressing and my favorite place to get it is Bob Evans and my long-time friends don't even ask where I want to go for birthday and so we went:  Bev, Debbie, Barb and Cindi Hawke, who happens to be the manager there and used to be at Semo!  We didn't have to finish stories;  we all knew the ending already!

And Betty's birthday is today although we are having a joint party next week!  There is also a party tonight hosted by Bev and Debbie!  And they are finishing the mudding on my house today and Yea!

It is guaranteed to be a great day!

Juan and me celebrating!

I worked with Juan Crites for many years in Academic and our birthdays were back to back!  So we went out yesterday to Katie's to celebrate!  And the years all came back!  We remembered the good and the bad and they were events, not adverbs!   She talked about her anxieties and her shoulder problems and her trip she was leaving on and by the time we finished eating, she was laughing!  We both assumed our roles we were used to playing!

Eid-al-fire

Last night was a first for me!  I went to Baptist Student Center for the feast at the end of Ramadan!  It was interesting and I liked being a part of something that meant something to my endowed scholarship recipients!  You are never to late to learn!  Thank you for making the desserts and including me!

Today is Daddy's birthday!

Here's to him today and here's some things you didn't know:   He loved fishing and loved to be out in a boat with Alex or mr. chron, who he called Lightning!

He loved to play cards and played to win.  I recall several accused him of cheating!

He loved to play his guitar and write. he wrote a book called;  prophet from the Ozarks!    He made his own way out of the hills but he never left it!  He never carried a grudge against  anyone! He was something!

Yesterday Jim McGill, Tamra Zellers Buck and I went out to eat lunch and we had as my mother used to say "a fine time"!  All of us went to Charleston High School and now both of them teach at Semo!  She teaches journalism and he teaches chemistry!  I am proud to call them both friends!

Revisiting Semo Night at Busch

Jill Munsell Ellsworth came down yesterday and we went to lunch!  She married a Semo football player who died and then she worked at Cardinals and we did Semo Night at Busch together for many years!   I loved seeing her and remembering those good times!

On the town Tuesday night!

Greg and Barb Brune picked me up last night in their new vehicle and we took off for downtown!  First we stopped at Biergarten for a big alumni party and then we went to 36 for our birthday party!  Ran into Burl Stamp down there!  It was a big night and I loved seeing so many people who matter to me!  I came home tired but content!  Could have been the wine!

Big day in Sikeston yesterday!

Went to Sikeston to meet two new doctors who are coming in and who both had Jim Cooper's scholarship at Mo Delta:  Trevin and Fallon Mayabb!  They have a one year old daughter who is so cute!  Trevin will work part time in East Prairie also since he is a native there!  Saw Blair Moran who is my old neighbor from Charleston!   I enjoyed the visit so much!  She is an obstetrician and badly needed!

Monday, July 13, 2015

Starting a Monday!

I am sitting here waiting to get my hair dyed in anticipation of going to Sikeston to meet Dr and Dr Tyler mayabb who has had Jims scholarship during medical school!  His wife is also a doctor and he has ties to East Prairie and he is coming home!  I'm excited about meeting them and I'm proud that both Jim and I have had a part in their coming!

I am glad that Jim and I had the time while we were both trying to help Betty and Jennie to sit and talk and laugh about the old house and Charleston High!  I hope he thought his life was meaningful for it sure was!

Lucas and Semoball event

Lucas Presson is the manager of the Missourian big event of Semoball awards and it was a sellout!  He brought me two comp tickets and Matt Porter and I went last night!  Packed at River campus with all the area people pouring in!  The food was a Hawaian barbecue and it was so good!   I even met the new president of Semo for one brief minute,  Pam and Carlos Vargas!

Murielle Wyman all grown up!

I went on campus yesterday to Kent Library for a lunch on the veranda and a tour of the Rare Book Room ( which, in itself is rare) .  The tour was sponsored by the Arts Council and set up by Muriel someone!   When I looked at her, I said, Are you John and Jerianes daughter and I said, "I'm Jim Stacys mother!"  And we laughed and took a pic just for Jim!

Ready for the sky's to clear!

Where did the rain come from?  Lord, there are droughts everywhere! I pray that they will start. Getting their share!  Thanks to Adam and Mark Spinks I am dry!  Stayed out of house a while yesterday!

Had lunch with athletic crew at Semo yesterday to get the scoop about the athletic director resigning and then ran into Kirk Metge getting my nails done!

Rain, rain go away! Wait till my house is finished for a dry day!

The tornados escaped us last night but rain is still pouring!  So far, so good!  Talked to Sara last night and she is worn out but had good time!

Enjoyed my day however!  Went out to eat with Suzanne Omran and then Lana Richmond and I went to Greg Brunes to say Happy Birthday!  It is fun to be out there among friends!

Oh yeah! an addendum !

While the men were on the roof, they said that I had hail damage and I needed to call my insurance company and have an inspection immediately!  I called Farmers this morning and they recommended Todt Roofing who will do a free inspection!   More to follow!  I'm scared!  I'm beginning to understand the crap they are talking about!

Good morning and it is one!

I am grateful for these things:

Sara and Dan got home safely!
Andrea got moved thanks to Tina driving the truck to Boston;
Leah and Adam were here and helped me so much;
No workmen in house today!  Mark and Gayla finished their work as far as they can go at this point and we are waiting for the guttering people to put in the new guttering and the people to put in sump pump and the man to do the brick layering!  But when the sump pump is in, Mark and Gayla can finish their part inside and the guy can stretch the carpet and I am having an open house!

Tuesday, July 7, 2015

Oh Joy, another day with contractors talking about voodoo!

Short but not terse!  Mark and Gayla here at 8:30 along with Mark Warner looking at gutters and Hacker plumbing bringing a camera to examine the French drain!   Sara and Dan get home today!

J and k Concrete came yesterday and they found where the water was coming in  but the foundation does not meet wall so they will put in sump pump!

Monday, July 6, 2015

Adam and Leah here!

My grandchildren are here and we have talked endlessly about mall picnics, scalloped potatoes and old times!  Even went to Gordonville Grill!   Adam will meet with Mark and Gayla this morning to discuss my water problems!  He thinks the whole wall is affected and we need a basement waterproofing!

But he is awaiting a final judgment!

Colin and Adrienne's anniversary today

This is Colin and Adriennes anniversary and those two know how to dress for the 4th!  They have pizazz  in a big way!  I can't remember how to spell it but I can still recognize and appreciate it!

Happy anniversary!

Daddy and guitar

My sister, Rose Marie, found an old picture in her files that Bill Jordan took at the old house and I got it yesterday!  Daddy is playing his guitar and Rosie is playing the piano!  This is before Rmc had kids so try to figure out who else is in the pic!  The only ones I can discern are Jennie and Julia!   Remember all the fourth of Julys we went to East Prairie for Betty's sloppy joes!

Water, water, everywhere!

Bev Hickam and I went out to dinner tonight and it came a deluge of rain while we were eating!  It has been raining off and on all day!   I came home to this!

My scholarship recipients

I have a bond with my scholarship recipients and I am really proud of them all!  When I retired, people gave to a scholarship in my name and we raised the money for Jennie when she retired!  Long ago I donated the money for a scholarship in Daddy's name and in my own name!  I now have done one in Jims name and Betty's name and I am working on one in Marks name!  I believe in the program!  People helping people!

Yesterday I went out to lunch with Jeneise and her three children!  She is taking five classes, raising her kids and working at Schindlers Tavern on weekends!  It made me remember how much I know that this money makes the difference!

Singing in the rain!

We had a terrible rain and I got up to check the bare floor!  I was disheartened to see that there was dampness around the dehumidifier but then I discovered that it was filled to overflowing!  Mark and Gayla are starting next week on the job!  So I am singing about the rain not coming in!

I was really busy yesterday!  I had guests from Farmington who are donors to Bsc and hag lunch with Anita Eby who was alumni director after I stepped down and then Roxie Dunn from Kent Library Archives took me up to see my display of memorabilia!     I plan a more restful, if not more fulfilling weekend!  And Adam and Leah come Sunday!  Yea!!!!!

I'm singing about no rain!!

Last night we had a big rain and no water came in!  I am still emptying the dehumidifier and running 3 fans!    Went to two events yesterday:  Cyndy Hawke and I went out to celebrate the last day of   The current President and then Marie Steinhoff retired from Business!
